On December 3-4, 2022, Taalim-Forum public foundation, together with the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, held a joint working meeting to discuss the roadmap for the digital transformation of the education system in the country. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic Ulanbek Mambetakunov, Ministry’s employees responsible for digital transformation, strategic planning, monitoring and analysis, experts in education and IT, innovative teachers, heads of methodological centers, and representatives of public organizations. In the process of work, the adopted legal documents, the tasks set and implemented for expanding the scale of digital transformation in Kyrgyzstan have been mapped. The existing challenges were identified, including the insufficient level of computer equipment at schools, lack of digital skills of teachers and managers, poor connection to the Internet, outdated curricula to prepare teachers, lack of national content of online resources, and slow reforms in the system of teachers training. Representatives of the Ministry of Education spoke about plans to improve the digital infrastructure, access to the Internet for all public schools, ICT competencies among teachers taking into account the approved qualification requirements adopted in 2021.
The meeting participants identified priorities, discussed the action plan, responsible agencies, and further steps in the digital transformation of education, development of ICT skills at all levels of the education system; training programs on developing digital skills for the entire population including vulnerable groups; and development of national digital educational content in the languages of ethnic minorities.
The joint working meeting was organized within the framework of the project “Distance education to improve quality and access to education” with the support of IDRC within the framework of the KIX program together with the Global Partnership for Education.
