Completion of the piloting of the quantitative survey instruments

In March-April 2023, a team of experts completed the piloting of the quantitative research instruments that will be used for the survey conducted among 8th-10th grade students and teachers in 3 countries implementing the project Distance education to improve quality and access to school education in Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, and Tajikistan. The piloting based on the surveying of 4 teachers and 20 schoolchildren in urban and rural settlements helped to check and revise the questionnaires developed in 5 languages.

The teams of interviewers have been formed to collect the data. The training sessions provided instructions for the fieldworkers to ensure complete and correct data collection. During the training, the aims, objectives of the research, ethical standards, sampling design, and data collection methodology by using tablets and the application were discussed. During the quantitative phase of the research, it is planned to survey 3600 students and 900 teachers in 9 regions of Kyrgyzstan, 2000 students and 500 teachers in 6 regions of Tajikistan, and 900 students and 225 teachers in 5 regions of Mongolia. The total coverage will include 6500 students and 1625 teachers in the three countries.

The research design and instruments have been approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) of the American University of Central Asia. The quantitative research phase will be completed by the end of May 2023.
